West Coast Swing Private Lessons in Denver
Want to Finally Feel Like a Dancer (Instead of Just Memorizing Patterns)?
If You’re Ready to Master West Coast Swing Technique, Connection, and Musicality — I’ve Got a Wooden Floor, a Mirror, and 14 Years of Experience with Your Name on It.
Dear Aspiring (or Frustrated) Westie,
If you’re tired of pouring your time and money into group classes where you learn a “cool move” but still feel lost when the music comes on…
If you’ve been dancing for YEARS but still secretly wonder why it’s not clicking…
If you’re a total beginner and the idea of showing up to a social makes your armpits sweat…
Then this may be the most important page you’ll read this year.
Because here’s the truth about West Coast Swing:
It’s not about memorizing patterns.
It’s not about fancy styling.
It’s not about “just feeling it.”
It’s about mastering the invisible techniques that make you a dancer people want to dance with.
And that’s exactly what I teach.
Who Am I and Why Should You Trust Me With Your Dance Journey?
Hi. I’m Jonathan Prichard.
And I’m probably the most unlikely person to ever become a dance teacher.
See, I bombed out of my musical theatre program in college because I couldn’t dance.
A director of a national tour almost fired me when he realized I had two left feet.
When I first found West Coast Swing, I was TERRIBLE.
It took me five YEARS before I worked up the nerve to social dance.
But I was obsessed. I took every class, every private lesson I could get my hands on.
And after more than a decade of grinding (and investing a small fortune), I didn’t just learn how to dance…
I learned how to TEACH it.
Today, I compete in the All-Star division, teach and judge across the country, and I run the Denver Westies Performance Team, where I co-choreograph our annual routine for Swingtime.
I’ve spent the last 7 years training directly under 8-time World Champion Robert Royston — who personally says I’m one of only TWO people in Colorado qualified to teach his Shared Center System.
So yeah, I may joke in my bios… but when it comes to teaching technique, musicality, and real connection…
I’m deadly serious.
What You’ll Get From a Lesson With Me
Unlike other privates where you get 45 minutes and a few random tips…
You get a FULL HOUR with me — for $75 — and a focused, personalized plan to improve your dancing where it actually matters.
Here’s what we might work on (depending on your goals):
Improving your connection so you’re easier to lead/follow
Fixing your weight transfers and balance (bye-bye awkwardness)
Developing musicality and phrasing that makes partners melt
Understanding how to ground yourself and move with intention
Applying the Shared Center System to elevate every partnership
Drills and exercises to get you unstuck — fast
I don’t just teach moves (though I’d be happy to prepare you for leveled classes around town that require proficiency in certain moves).
I teach the skills that make you look and feel like a dancer — whether you’re just starting out, or you’ve been dancing for 20+ years and feel plateaued.
Who This Isn’t For:
You just want new patterns to add to your “dance resume”
You think dancing better means buying a new pair of shoes
You aren’t willing to practice outside of lessons
If that’s you, we’re probably not a good fit.
But if you’re the kind of dancer who values growth, clarity, and quality feedback from someone who’s been in the trenches…
Then I’d love to help you stop spinning your wheels and actually get better.
When and Where?
I teach out of my home studio in Littleton, just 7 minutes from Colorado Dancesport.
I’ve got a wooden floor, mirrors, and a teaching style that gets results.
Availability:
Weekday mornings/afternoons while my 3 kids are in school
Late evenings after 9pm when they’re in bed
